Burial place variation:

====

MFH (Adkins) death cert. gives burial place as Burial Pauley Grave Yard, Big Chimney, WVA

Family-KNOWN burial site near entrance Rush Branch (dirt road) off Little Sandy Ck Rd WVA…personal knowledge of Nada (Adkins) Strickland & husband Wesley, and Margaret (Adkins) Couch & son, Doug Couch. This site destroyed by forest harvesters in 1974 but found again by Walker Proctor with professional help. Mary's grave site now has since been marked with a low profile beveled, carved stone at the head. (see gravestone photo)

Death place variation:

=====

MFH (Adkins) death cert. gives death place as Mountain State Hospital. (No parental information shown.)

Lorine (Strickland) Smith, granddaughter, stated she died at home on Little Sandy Creek Road. House still exists. This area of that road is toward the north east end, where it becomes Wills Creek Road. The house is on the south side of the creek, just west of the former Rush Branch Strickland residence (gone). (see 2008 map)

Daughter, Nada (Adkins) Strickland (Lorine's mother), gave death date as 12/24 and burial on 12/26.

Addl 1999-2003 note: Proctor's cemetery is now just up the hillside from Mary's grave site. The original plan years prior was to create a cemetery at her grave site, but the ground proved too rocky. Lorine Smith stated her mother Nada (Adkins) Strickland had stated that Nada's mother's native American heritage was Cherokee, as learned from her (unnamed) mother, a full-blood Cherokee. Her husband, Andrew Jackson Adkins' grave site is unproven and apparently not as given on the death cert).
