Mary went to Hereford to work and there she met Henry Hill, a police officer for the city of Hereford. They were married in Worcester, Worcester. Shortly after they moved to Worcester they heard theLDS missionaries and were both baptized in Worcester. Mary Griffiths Hill wanted to leave England and go to "Zion." Her husband, Henry, did not want to go but he gave Mary the choice to go if she wished to do so. She decided to leave, but Henry did not go with her. She left England in 1862 taking with her her two living children, Caroline and Heber Jesse. She had twin boys in Worcester, both of which died shortly after birth. When Mary left England her family was so unhappy with her that they would not even tell her "goodbye." When Mary got to Winter Quarters (near what is now Omaha, Nebraska) her son, Heber Jesse, died and was buried in the Mormon cemetery there. After Mary left England her brother John Griffiths, her sisters Lois and Caroline, all joined the LDS Church and emigrated to Utah. John brought Mary's husband Henry with him in 1863. When Mary arrived in Utah she had no place to live. She had no relatives there. She was all alone with her daughter Caroline. A man by the name of STEWART offered her a place to stay in his home in Payson. When John Griffiths came in 1863 with Henry Hill they went to Payson because that was where Henry's wife Mary was living. It was in Payson that John got acquainted with Theophania Griffin and they were married in Payson. John Griffiths and Theophania, along with Henry Hill and Mary, were sealed in the Endowment House 13 June 1868. John and Theophania moved to Clarkston, Utah, where they were some of the first settlers. In about 1870 Mary Griffiths and Henry Hill separated or "got a bill of divorcement." They each married again and each had another family. Mary Griffiths Hill married Alexander Morris Ledingham. They moved to Newton, Utah to be near John, her brother. Mary Griffith Ledingham was one of the early settlers of Newton. She and A.M. Ledingham are buried in Newton.

JOURNAL: Mary Griffiths Ledingham kept a journal. Jay and Ruby Woodward of Newton, Utah have a copy (2005); they live in St. George, Utah during the winter months.
