Mary Ann, called Polly, was born in East Tennessee, 20 October 1825; (25 in 1850).Her date of death is unknown; it is said she is buried in Plum Grove Cemetery in Jefferson City, Kansas. She married in Clay County, Missouri on 3 December 1845 (Book B., p27) Henry Gragg, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Pharoah) Gragg and brother to John who married her sister Malinda.Henry was born in Clay County, Missouri 7 December 1823 and is referred to in his father's Will as ". . .the one that my wife is pregnant with. . ."According to the George Gragg research, Henry died in Clay County, Missouri in 1851.From Mrs. Geigle we have the date 3 March 1851, authority for this date unknown. He was probably buried in the Gragg Family Cemetery which was "on the homeplace" six miles west of Liberty in Clay County. The cemetery was destroyed without notifying the family or removing headstones.
Very little research has been done on this family by the present Faubion family researchers. From the George Gragg research, we have learned that Henry was placed under the guardianship of his half-brother, Benjamin, until he became of age.In 1848 Henry was appointed guardian of two of his older brother Robert's children, Benjamin H. and Elizabeth Ann Gragg.Following his death, Mary was evidently appointed Administratrix of his estate for, as such, she sold at least a part of the Clay County land to her brothers Spencer Jr. and Jacob, and perhaps to her Father, on 4 October 1852 (Deed Book N., p 89 & p. 93).As it is said that she was buried at Plum Grove, it is possible Mary moved to Kansas in 1854 with her brothers Spencer Jr. and Jacob, and died there.
One of the family legends as told to Mrs. M. Hollingsworth by Wyatt Gragg, a descendant, is that Henry Gragg made a trip to the California gold fields, and "never returned."A reading of the probate records might have clarified the events surrounding Henry's death.
According to Pangle, Henry and Mary had two sons, "Frank", and "Dutch".The first, whose name was Francis, was mistakenly listed in the 1850 Census as a female and so recorded in the George Gragg research papers.
