Notes

Biography.
Lucinda East, daughter of Benjamin East and Nancy Ann Pruitt of Campbell Co and Goochland Co VA, was born 11 December 1793 in Goochland Co (age 65 in 1860). She may have been Mary Lucinda East, but all her life she was known as Lucinda. Lucinda moved with her family to Davidson Co TN about 1805 and married James Buchanan there on 24 April 1810. See Lucinda’s brother Edward Hyde East [E4c1a2i]; he also married a Buchanan, and a Louisa East married Alexander Buchanan. James was also named in the estate papers of Lucinda's father in August 1813, as were other husbands of Lucinda's sisters. Lucinda lived next to her son Edward and with her daughter Harriet in 1860 at Donelson, Davidson Co in 1860. She died at Donelson on 15 April 1865. James Buchanan was born 16 July 1763 in Augusta Co VA, son of Archibald Buchanan and Agnes Bowen, and died in Davidson Co on 14 February 1841. Both are buried in the James Buchanan family cemetery on Elm Hill Road. On the old farm are the gravestones of James Buchanan, his wife “Lucinda East Buchanan,” and their son Archibald. James’ stone says "A kind husband and affectionate father" and “Farewell me friends, as you pass by; as you are now so was I; As I am now so must you be; Prepare to die and follow me." Lucinda’s stone says "As thou hast said I shall follow you, As all the rest must shortly do; Then be not guilty of any crime, So you may live in the heaven sublime."
