Parentage

Some researchers have stated that Mary Davis was a daughter of Samuel Davis (1756-1824) and Jane Cook, but this appears to be unfounded. Samuel and Jane's first five children were born in Georgia and the last five children in Christian County, Kentucky, including Confederate President Jefferson Davis. They did have a daughter named Mary Ellen Davis, born abt. 1805/6, but she apparently married a Robert Davis, 1820 in Mississippi.
