Mabel gave birth out of wedlock between 1912-1918.

She and her siblings were impoverished orphans, having lost Mary & Laurence in rapid succession 1911. Even with both parents alive, their lives were confined to tenement dwelling at its worst in NY's heyday.

When Mabel had her baby, or even when she was pregnant, the others thre her out. An outcast black sheep, she was never seen or heard from again by any member of our family.

What they did to her is a source of shame and hurt to this day.

I've looked so long and hard for Mabel's child, but with practically no leads.

It is possible Mabel remained close to her Aunt Nellie Herlihy Schweitzer & Uncle Otto Schweitzer, NYC, NY. I noticed they all lived in the same household in the 1930 U.S. Census NYC, NY. Otto is interred at Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne, NY, but no mention of Mabel on the family plot grave list. --OliviaRevits 14:25, 1 May 2007 (MDT)
