MARY AGNES COURTNEY CAREY (1876-1965)

She came with her parents to LeMars, IA in 1880.

"Courtney - Carey Wedding Married in St. James Church, with Teresa Courtney and James Carey attending. A wedding breakfast was served at the bride's home, at which only relatives and fifteen of the brides most intimate girlfriends were present.

The bride's gown was simple and girlish. It was of the sheerest French lawn. She carried a bouquet of bride's roses, tied with long streamers of white satin ribbon. In her hair she wore a single spray of the bridal flower. For a travelling suit she wore a dark blue Gibilene cloth, with a hat to match.

The bride has lived in LeMars since childhood and is much admired and loved by all. The groom is a very popular business man in Ellsworth, Minnesota and is highly respected by his many friends.

Mr. & Mrs. Carey left on the 11:45 train for for a two weeks outing at Lake Okoboji. Returning, they will reside in a cozy home on Chestnut Street in Ellsworth." Press clipping excerpts - 1903

My grandmother "Mame" was about 5' 1" with beautiful white hair and flawless skin. She was about 13 years younger than my grandfather Carey. But, as she possessed a serious nature and he a fun-loving one, they seemed the same age.

Shortly after his death, Grandma decided to learn how to drive, went to driving school, and qot her license - and took Denver by storm! She drove badly, and fast. Had a few fender-benders, but nothing major. I was driving long before she gave up her beloved car.
