Mary Cannon was born on 27th December 1750 and baptised on 6th January 1751 at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, daughter of Ann Cannon, formerly Bracey, and her husband Godfrey Cannon, a labourer.

On 30th October 1767, aged sixteen, Mary married George Everitt, a labourer and widower, whose first wife had died earlier that year. Mary and George went on to have nine children spanning the next twenty five years - a consequence of Mary having married so young. Mary's mother died in 1781 and her father died in 1793.

George died in 1800, when their youngest child was only seven years old. Mary outlived him by nearly 30 years, and died in 1830, aged 79. Her burial records that she had lived at Walsworth, a hamlet to the north-east of the parish, then separated from the town of Hitchin by open fields. She had lived to see at least twenty grandchildren born in her lifetime, although she also outlived at least three of her children.

Whilst no named connection has been found between the Mary born in 1750 and the one who married George Everitt in 1767, the link has been made on the basis that Mary's burial suggests she was born around 1750/1, and Mary must have been born between 1745 (to be no more than 48 when her youngest child was born) and 1753 (to be more than 14 when married). The 1750 birth appears to be the only Mary Cannon in that timeframe in Hitchin, which was the parish in which she married, had her children and died. There are three other Mary Cannon baptisms locally to Hitchin in this period, but all can probably be ruled out:
ch. 26 Dec 1747, Weston - presumably will be the one who married at neighbouring Baldock in 1770.
ch. 24 Sep 1749, Willian - can be ruled as out buried at Willian 14 Jul 1750.
ch. 15 Apr 1751, Offley - presumably will be the one who married at neighbouring King's Walden in 1772.
Moreover, no evidence that the Mary Cannon born in 1750 died young or married anyone else has been found. We therefore conclude that the Mary born in 1750 is the same person as the Mary who married George Everitt in 1767.
