  4. Note: Source:Densmore, Lyman Willard. Hand-Book of Hartwell Genealogy, 1636-1887, p. 120, say Mary m. (3) 22 Aug 1861 Capt. Geo. K. Smith of Bowen's Prairie, who d. 8 Mar 1868. It does appear that a marriage between two people of those names was recorded, and this source appears to be the result of personal interview. So it is probably correct. However, Mary is listed under the name of her second husband in the 1880 census?
