"Stiles' 'Ancient Windsor' gives Sept. 25, 1704, as the date of birth of the daughter Mary, but in the record of the Brown family, the same authority states that she married Peter Brown in 1696, or eight years before the date of her birth. In the Appendix of the volume mentioned, Dr. Stiles calls attention to this discrepency. It will be seen, by reference to the wills heretofore mentioned that there was a daughter Mary belonging to this family; that she was married prior to the making of her father's will, in Feb., 1708-9, and in her sister Mindwell's will she is specifically mentioned as the wife of Peter Brown. Hence she was evidently one of the older children."

The 1731 will of Ruth (Drake) Barber calls Mary Brown her daughter; she was almost certainly the eldest child born to Samuel Barber and his second wife, Ruth Drake.
