Mrs.George McConnell Dies New Year's Night
In the enjoyment of good health for a woman of her age up to a week ago, Mrs. George McConnell, old and highly esteemed resident, died at her home, Saturday night, from a heart attack. She had partaken of Christmas dinner with the family. She spoke to and called her children by name five minutes before she died.
Mrs. mcConnell would have been 82 years old January 12. She was born here and spent her life here, with the exception of a couple of years in Marcellus, NY, 25 years ago. She was a daughter of John Adams and his wife, Mary Ann Clement, daughter of Colonel James Clement, one of the early military men of this district. Her maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Adams. She was married to Mr. mcConnell at Trinity Church, here, June 28, 1876, by Rev. Canon Preston, and observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage June 28, 1936.
Besides her husband, who is 88 years old, she leaves five daughters and a son - Mrs. George W. King, Montreal; Mrs. Donald F. Cameron, Mrs. Harry Plumley, Sr., Mrs. Victor Whitham, Mrs. Allan J. Brydges and Bernard McConnell, all in Cornwall.
She also leaves two brothers and three sisters - Hugh Adams, of Marcellus, NY, the former well known member of the Cornwall lacrosse team; John Adams of Cornwall; Mrs. james Armstrong of Marcellus, NY; Mrs. Charles O'Callaghan and Miss Gertrude Adams, both in Montreal.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon to Woodlawn cemetery, following service at the house, 429 Fifth street, East.
