Facts and Events
There is absolutely no evidence to support that Marten is descended from the Schenck van Nydeck Barons. this ancestry was invented by a 19th century Schenck genealogist going back to 878 to an alleged Colve de Witte. If you study the descent you wiil see that it is extremely flawed, involving children born after their parent's 100th birthdays, many missing generations, etc. If anyone can unearth a shred of evidence to the contrary I will welcome it. My grand aunt died believing in this fiction in 1959, but it has never been proved. !NAME-EMIGRATION: Marten Schenck van Nydeck, is thought by Col. van der Dussen, Netherlands army to have come to the Nieu Netherland with his children, three ... on the ship de Valckenier, Wilhelm Thomassen, Captain, which sailed from Amsterdam, Holland some time in March of 1650 and landed Jun 28th. No record of him has been found in this country, but it may be that he died soon after his arrival. From the history of the Scheanck family compiled by Kate Ward Reid ca 1930.
