From the February 19, 1975, edition of the Clayton County Register (Elkader, Ia.) Martha Lestina MONONA: Services for Martha Lestina, 89, were held in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona Saturday, February 15, 1975, with Pastor R.D. Ehlers officiating. Jon Blumhagen soloist was accompanied by Mrs. R.L. Evans, organist. Martha Wilhelmina Lestina daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schroeder, was born September 24, 1885, in Farmersburg Township. On March 14, 1886, she became a child of God through baptism. After instruction in the christian faith, she was confirmed on April 8, 1900. She and Frank August Lestina were united in marriage January 13, 1903. Three children were born to this union, Walter Lestina of Ossian, Mrs. Alice Kottman, Harpers Ferry, and Mrs. Hazel Blumhagen, Monona. She received her education in the rural schools of the area. Since 1969 she was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Postville, where she died on February 12, 1975, having reached the age of 89 years, 4 months and 19 days. She was preceded by her husband, two brothers, and three sisters. Surviving are her three children, one sister, Mrs. Elsie Fox, Monona, one brother, Harold Schroeder of Chicago; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pall bearers were Ronald Blumahgen, Gary Kottman, Harland Kottman, Ray Suckow, D.E. Schweikert, Harold Schroeder and Lowell Fox. Image Gallery
