    Horsfall John Tomlin
    Personal Estate £1,770 14s
    Resworn January 1886 Nil

    2 October.
Administration of the Personal Estate of John Tomlin Horsfall late of the United States of America Bachelor who died in or since 1859 at _______ was granted at the Principal Registry [London] to Martha Horsfall of Fairfield Buxton in the County of Derby Spinster the Sister and one of the Next of Kin.

Note: According to his family in England, John Tomlin Horsfall went to America about 1855, sailing for Halifax, Canada, and was never heard of again. (Letter, Maurine Creagh, Australia, to Robert Bruce Horsfall III, 14 Nov. 1987?)
Because John Tomlin Horsfall had no contact with his family in England, he was probably presumed dead, which would explain why probate was entered prior to his death.
Without a will, the original probate record would most likely contain no more information than is shown in the Calendar. (See: Christensen, Dr. Penelope, Researching English Probae Records. Heritage Productions, Toronto, Ontario, 2001)
