11 May 1900 - Death of Mrs. Martha Tatum - Intelligence was received here on yesterday of the death at her home in Campbell (County) of Mrs. Martha C. Tatum, an aged lady who is well known here and who is related to a number of prominent residents of this city. For a long time she had been in declining health and towards the last her condition was such that all hope for her recovery was abandoned. She resided in the home of her grandson, Mr. A. Lynch Ward, at Lynch's Station and in the community in which she lived she was highly esteemed for her many beautiful qualities. Mrs. Tatum was a grand-daughter of Patrick Henry and was eighty-seven years of age. She was twice married, her first husband being Mr. Henry Ward and her second Mr. William Tatum. By the first marriage there was a son and a daughter, both of whom are now dead, the son being Robert H. Ward, judge of the County Court in Campbell. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church and had been connected with that denomination for many years. The funeral will take place today from the residence of Mr. A. Lynch Ward.
