Facts and Events
Name[1][2] Marion Strong Shearer
Gender Female
Birth[1][2] 28 Apr 1873
Marriage 23 Oct 1901 Portage La Prairie, Manitobato John Albert Dunsmore
Death[1][2][3] 18 Jul 1902 Langford, Manitoba

Marion's father's obituary in 1900 lists her residence as Minnedosa Manitoba. As it turns out, a group of 30 Listowel families embarked to settle that area of Manitoba...time frame unknown but likely starting in the 1877+ era..Marion appears to have married in Manitoba, but her children are not known. Other sources mention Franklin Manitoba as a site for her. When sister Janet Shearer died in 1928, her obituary mentions one less surviving sister than our records confirm but no names are given. A check of her sister Margaret's records confirm that Margaret was alive until 1929 so Marion died BEFORE 1928. As confirmation, her sister Isabella's obituary in 1933 mentions survivors names but does not mention her name. Any other information has been notable by its absence. It appears likely that research into Jane's family will turn up information on Marion's since they appear to have gone west at about the same time, and presumably kept in touch. In June 2003, I located record of her marriage and subsequent death on the Manitoba Vital Statistics Agency website. I then contacted Neepawa Public Library for an obituary. A descendant of J.A. Dunsmore's brother forwarded me the following:

DEATHOF MRS. DUNSMORE On Friday, the 18th July, Marion, wife of J. A. Dunsmore passed away in the 28th year of her life. Mrs Dunsmore was in good health until about seven weeks ago when.she was taken sick and gradually sank, becoming weaker every day, and although she had the best of medical attendance it was of no avail; the die was cast, and the young husband mourns the loss of her he expected to go through life with, but he has the consoling hope that what was his loss is her gain. Mrs. Dunsmore's sister came all the way from Ontario when she heard of her condition but unfortunately, owing to delayed trains, was too late to see her sister alive. The young husband and two sisters of deceased, here, Misses Jennie and Janet Shearer, have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their irreparable loss. The funeral to Neepawa cemetery was very largely attended.
