    Maria Jane McIntire - she was born in Madison on Jun 5, 1829. Her first years were spent working in the button factory until she married Thomas Doolittle on Feb 5, 1846. But Thomas died before the year was out. Then Maria has an illegimate child by Sam R. Brown...Charlotte born on Oct 12, 1851. AT this time she was living with Sarah McIntire, her mother. Sarah took Charlotte to raise & for the first 10yrs of her life she carried the name, Charlotte Brown. Marie went to work as a house servant until July 16, 1876 whe she married Edward Mantz. Upon his death in 1882 she purchased property at 118 S. Jefferson from John Nichlaus. Her mother, Sarah McIntire & her brother, Solomon lived with her here until 1887 wher Maria deeded the property to her daughter, Charlotte. Maria lived with her daughter until her death on Nov 23, 1913. She was known as Miza.

    Published Tues Nov 25, 1913 in the Madison Courier: Mrs Maria Mantz - dies at the Ripe Old Age of Eighty-Five - The death of Mrs.Maria Mantz, which took place Sunday at the ripe old age of 85yrs, marks the passing of one of Madison's most venerable lady residents. She had been ill of an internal tumor for some time, and this, with her advanced age, brought on her final dissolution. She died at the home of Mrs.Don C. Price, her daughter & only child, on S.Jefferson St., at half past 4 o'clock. Among the grandchildren left are Mr.Don Price Jr, engineer of the government steamer Scieto, who is on his way home from Evansville, IN; Mrs James Yater & Miss Lida Price, of this city. Mr.Daniel Birney, of Springfield, OH is a nephew. The decedent was originally a member of the Methodist church, but joined the 2nd Presbyterian church many years ago. The time of the funeral has not been fixed, awaiting word from the grandson. NOTE: Daniel Birney must be son of deceased sister, Elizabeth? Wonder why the other neices & nephews were not mentioned??
