Margaret Kelso was orphaned at an early age when her parents Alexander Kelso and Mary Blair were killed by the Indians at their mission in New Province. Alexander (B:1723 in Scotland) was an Episcopal Missionary to the Indians from Augusta Count west to Greenbriar Region of W. VA. where he had a land grant. He came to America in 1750 and converted to a Presbyterian Minister in W. VA.

Though there is no proof, it is reasonable to assume that Margaret and her younger siblings were made wards of Mathew Lyle and his wife Esther Blair, whom was probably a kinswoman of Mary Blair. Mathew was also a ward of the Lyle during this time period, which is where I believe they would have met as well as in church.

Margaret and Mathew Eakin moved to Blount County Tennessee prior to the birth of their first child Jane in 1784 who was born in Blount County. After Mathew's death around 1795, Margaret marries Thomas Sheddan and proceeds to have many more children in Blount County.
