[edit] Information on Margaret CatheyMargaret Cathey was born ca 1789/90 (per 1850 census) in Burke (now McDowell) Co, NC. She is a proven child of William Cathey as she and her husband Allen Campbell were named in the 1826 deed listing the heirs of William Cathey selling land. She was probably named for her aunt Margaret Cathey (1745). She seems to be home with her parents for the 1790 census, but I can't be sure as no ages were given for females. William Cathey had 5 females with him that year, one of them was certainly Margaret Cathey. Margaret seems to still be at home with her parents in 1800 (age 10-15, born ca 1784/90), and still home in 1810 (age 16-25, born ca 1784/94). Margaret Cathey married Allen Campbell between 1810 and ca 1811 in Haywood County. No marriage record was found, but their marriage is proven by the aforementioned 1826 deed naming the heirs of William Cathey. Allen Campbell was born ca 1787/88 in South Carolina. I don't know who his parents were, or what part of South Carolina he originated in. My own South Carolina Campbell ancestors were from eastern South Carolina, and it seems unlikely that there is a connection, as Allen is statistically more likely to be from western South Carolina somewhere. There was a James Campbell (bef 1755) in 1810 Haywood County, and he did have apparent sons Allen's age. He could be Allen's father.
