    ... Maj. Temple, one of his sons, the grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born in Pennsylvania in 1736. He married Mary Kennedy, of Pennsylvania, and in 1766 they moved to Mecklenburg, N. C, where he lived at the time of the battle of King's Mountain, in which he took part. In 1786 he moved to Greene County, Tenn., and settled not far from Greeneville, near the future site of Greeneville College. Maj. Temple had five sons and one daughter. The family became prominent in Greene County, as well because of its property as by reason of its virtues. ...
