Mrs.. Mabel Shoffner Newton BURLINGTON - Mrs.. Mabel Shoffner Newton, 88, of 2218 Hyde St., formerly of Wood Ave., died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health and a critical illness of one week.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Walter Alexious Newton Jr.., and the daughter of the late Daniel Moody Shoffner and Blanche Isley Shoffner. She was retired from Hole-N-None and was a member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs.. Pat Slaughter and husband, Vic, of Graham, Mrs.. Sandra Arenas and husband, Cass, Ms. Judy Harris, Mrs.. Glenda Day and husband, Doug, and Ms. Brenda Mahaley, all of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs.. Donnie Johnson of Burlington and Ms. Ruby Longerier of Greensboro; four brothers, Mr. Phalti Shoffner of Pilot Mountain, Mr. Bill Shoffner of Hickory and Mr. Winfred Shoffner and Mr. Dover Shoffner, both of Snow Camp; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nall Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Wade Cox. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina.

The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence of a daughter, Glenda Day, 2218 Hyde St., Burlington.
