Article from the Woodville Republican Lyttleton Lewis Mr Lyttleton Lewis is the grandson of Col John South Lewis and of Eunice B Lewis, and now owns and occupies the residence known as the Lewis home in Woodville. Mr F. D. Lewis, the father of the subject of this sketch, was a native of Wilkinson county, and served for almost four years as a member of Co. K. Mississippi, being one of three brothers in that company, the others being Capt. Jno. S. Lewis and Lieut. W. H. Lewis. Mr F. D. Lewis was only 16 years of age when he enlisted and had another brother, E. H. Lewis who saw service under General Forest when only fourteen years of age. He was wounded at Petersberg, Va and was home on crutches when the war closed. He married Mis Mary Harris; to them on May 27th 1874, Lyttleton was born. He attended public schools of this community and was appointed to the Us Military academy at West point, New York. His eyes having failed him, he was forced to return home after one year of instruction. Leaving school, Mr. Lewis went to Tensas parish where he spent a year and then returned to Wilkinson county to make his permanent home. On November 26 he married Miss Lizzie Morris a daughter of Mr and Mrs Monroe Morris of West Feliciana parish. The children of this union are Florence Euginia, a graduate of the A. H. School and of a business college, who now has a clerical position in Woodville; Lyttleton Jr. who has a position with a bank in New Orleans; Sydney M., who holds a position with the Richardson Company of Cincinnati; and Elizabeth and Mary South who are students of the A. H. school here. Mr. Lewis was elected County Treasurer in 1904 an office which he held until 1908. In that year he was elected Chancery Clerk, an office which through his efficiency he held until 1920. For the year following the organization of the Commercial Bank in 1913, Mr Lewis was president of that institution and since that time has served on the Board of Directors. He is a member of the Methodist church and has served on the Board of Stewards for the past year and is a Odd Fellow and a Knights of Pythias.
