Facts and Events
Lyle Leroy MILLER, the seventh child of Frank and Hannah (MCBRIDE) MILLER, was born July 1, 1912, in Erie, IL. He, too, must have been born at home, because no record of his birth was made with the county. A Delayed Birth Record was made in 1940 by attestation from his sister, Mabel (Miller) Jaquet. The 1930 census shows Lyle, age 17, was living in Erie with his mother, four brothers, grandmother Malinda, uncle George Francis, and foster child Buddy Krause. Lyle was a postal clerk in the US Navy and was blown off his ship during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; he survived the sinking of the USS West Virginia. Following the war he worked for the US Post Office in New Jersey. He married Florence FOLK on April 4, 1942, in Roselle Park, NJ, and they had two sons, Jeffrey and Kevin. Lyle died in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Union Co., NJ; his cause of death is given as code (518.8). His last employment was for the Virginia Supply Depot; he lived at 219 Pershing Ave, Roselle Park, NJ. Obituary from the Star-Ledger, East Orange, NJ; February 12, 1979: “MILLER- Entered into eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 9, 1979, Lyle L. Miller, of 219 Pershing Ave, Roselle Park, beloved husband of Florence Folk Miller of Stanhope, NJ and Kevin Paul Miller of Roselle Park, brother of Walter, Curtis, and Albert Miller, all of Ill. Funeral services will be held at the LEONARD HOME FOR FUNERALS, 242 West Jersey St., Elizabeth, on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 11 A.M. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside. Viewing Sunday and Monday 205 and 7-9 P.M.” Nothing is known about Florence Folk’s vitals or parents. She remarried William DUGGAN after Lyle’s death. According to Estelle (Gruhn) Miller, one of Estelle’s sons with Lyle was interested in family history. I was unable to find the correct William Duggan in Roselle Park, NJ, by phone in 2002., , , , , References
