    Mrs. Van B Philpot Dies Suddenly

    Mrs. Van B Philpot, a former past president of the Mississippi Medical Association Auxiliary and wife of a former Houston surgeon, who died of a sudden heart attack in Memphis at 1 pm, Sunday, May 30, was laid to rest in the Houston Cemetery Monday afternoon. She was 64.

    Impressive funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church in Houston Monday afternoon, June 1, at 2 o'clock with Dr. D M Nelson officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Raymond Kays and the Rev. W A Robinson.

    Active pallbearers were: Buford Atkinson, Edward Pryor, Tom Pryor, Forest Parker, George Atkinson, E W Atkinson, Edd Reeves, Arthur Taylor, Jr., Buddy Atkinson and Dr. W C Sandusky.

    Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City was in charge of arrangements.

    Dies on her Birthday
    Mrs. Philpot died on her birthday. She was born at Houston May, 30, 1895. She was the former Miss Lois Atkinson, daughter of the late W S Atkinson and Maggie Smith Atkinson.

    Her husband, Dr. Philpot, practiced in Houston, Tupelo and Holly Springs for 50 years before retiring three years ago and moving to Memphis. He operated the Houston Hospital here for years.

    Mrs. Philpot was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Houston for 14 years. She was a past matron of the Houston chapter and Grand Esther of the Grand Chapter of Mississippi, and was a graduate of Blue Mountain College. She was a member of the Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis.

    Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Dotson M Nelson, Jr., of Greenville, S. Carolina; Mrs. A R Taylor, Jr., of Como, Miss., and Mrs. W C Sandusky, Jr., of Memphis; a son, Dr. Van B Philpot, Jr., of Carlbou, Me.; a sister, Mrs. Grace a Ford of Houston and 16 grandchildren.
