- ↑ 8.0 8.1 Family History, by Reece Mayer [nephew of Lilly Mayer], ms, January 1991
When the family came west, Aunt Lilly, the oldest, was 15. She didn't like it very well, and went back to Pittsburgh to live with their Aunt Kate Schnellbacher. But after while, she got homesick for home folks and came back to Idaho. But after a bit, she wanted to go back to Pittsburgh. Her dad put his foot down and said they couldn't afford this back and forth bit - that she had to stay one place or the other. So she went back to Pgh., lived with Aunt Kate until she married Bob Mickelson and later, had Bobby, Jr. The family in Idaho never saw her again until summer of 1923.
Lily was in Idaho when Irma was born. The Aunts [Lilly's sisters] told me that her mother gave oldest girl, Lilly, 17, permission to name the new Baby. Lilly wanted to name her "Idaho" but her mother nixed that. So Lilly named her "Irma" (according to Cousin Bob Mickelson after an Indian girlfriend of hers. Lots of Nez Perce Indians around yet at that time. (1907)
