LEVI SHUMWAY5 (Levi4, Oliver3, Peter2, Peter1), b. Oct. 21, 1752, d. Apr. 10, 1835; he m. Chloe Belknap; at an early period in his life, he is said to have removed from Oxford... to Belchertown, Mass.,...on a return roll of Captain John Cowl's company in the regiment of Col. B.R. Woodbridge, in 1775, his name appeared as a private; he is thus identified with the soldiers of the Revolution; his name is also on a pension roll of a later date, with others from Belchertown; after the close of the war, he removed to Whitingham, Vermont, and became one of the pioneer settlers of that town, clearing the land for his home, and becoming one of the thrifty farmers of that section; later, he owned and occupied a farm in Readsboro, Vermont, where he remained until his death; children:
