Leslie was the only child of Samuel and Iva (Leslie) Munroe. He grew up in Everett, MA and graduated from high school there. He served in WWII as a Seargant and was stationed in New Guinea. He graduated from Bentley School of Accounting (today it is Bentley College) and worked at Marriner's Woolen Mill in Lawrence and Raytheon Company in Sudbury and Wayland as a cost accountant. He was 6'4" tall and had a size 15 shoe.
