February 10, 1829: Will of Leonard Stump,11 the youngest son of Michael Stump, Senior, and wife Catherine on the South Fork in Virginia.

The legatees and devisees named in this last will and testament of the named individual were: Son: Adam, Dau's: Ann Barnett, Cath. Harness, Hannah Dyre, Christena Perril, Mary Ann Hutten, Others. The son Adam is the direct predecessor of the present-day James A. Stump family residing in Romney, West Virginia.

November 14, 1829: George Stump inventory of estate 11 The date of will probate for the previous 1805 last will and testament entry for the second son of Michael Stump, Senior, and wife Catherine.

There is one prior record that will be entered here for clarification as follows: December 2, 1826: Inventory of estate of Captain Leonard Stump.

This Leonard is the son of Michael, Junior, and wife Sarah (Hughes) Stump. The preceding February 10, 1829, will of his uncle, another Leonard Stump, precludes confusing the two same-named parties. The military captaincy may have been either a militia, War of 1812, or both rank. The determination of its origin is probably best left to the lineal descendants, if any. However, it apparently has been established that Captain Leonard Stump married a Mary Morrow.12
