1920 - Virginia Womble lives at 1947 Harrison St., with her dad, stepmother, and brothers in Paducah, KY. She worked at a textile factory to earn money for Teachers College. Virginia’s dad had recently married their housekeeper. Source: Virginia Womble working in a textile factory is a family story and has not been verified. Virginia Womble's husband, Alfred Blickensderfer said in 1994 when he was visiting Decatur, IL, that he worked as a machinist in Cincinnati, OH to earn money for college. It is possible that the story about Virginia was confused with her husband's working in a factory or this could have been a similarity of Viginia and Alfred's youth. The address is substantiated by the 1920 Federal Census Paducah City, McCracken County Kentucky, National Archives Microfilm Publication T625, Roll No. 588; Enumeration District No. 147, Sheet No. 8B.

1926 Jan. 30 - Virginia Womble's stepmother, Lou Womble dies in Centralia, IL of apoplexy and she had lived in Centralia for 2 years. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery Paducah, KY. 1926-1927 - Virginia Womble taught in Princeton, KY (Caldwell County) at Butler High School for one year. At the high school, she taught history and social science. She was the co-sponsor of the freshman class and the sponsor of the dramatic club. Also, she is mentioned in the Faculty poem, some of the faculty members were graduates of Western Kentucky State Teachers College. In Princeton, she met a Catholic guy. Virginia considered marrying him and converting to Catholicism, and also becoming a nurse. She attended the St. Bernard nursing school in Chicago for 6 months. Virginia decided against marrying the Catholic man, converting to Catholicism, and becoming a nurse. She then taught in Carrollton, KY for one year. Source: The information regarding Virginia Womble's social life are from a story that John M. Blickensderfer told me, Susan J. Yockey when I was visiting him in 2004 in Philadelphia, PA. The story has not been substantiated by any facts the Butler High school yearbook does show what courses she taught and possibly how she was regarded by her students. 1927 June 13-15 - Joseph W. Womble is hit in the head with a baseball bat while managing an evening in-door baseball game at the Y.M.C.A. He dies from a skull fracture at St. Mary’s Hospital and was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, June 17. He is living at 950 East Broadway, and has lived in Centralia for 4 years. 1930 - Virginia Womble lived at 500 Van Voast St. in Bellevue, KY. She lived as a boarder at the home of Wilbur and Mary Robbins. Wilbur worked as a pipefitter for a Street car company. Virginia worked as a teacher for the Bellevue Public School. 1947-1957 - Virginia Womble Blickensderfer lives at 517 East Hill Ave. in Knoxville, TN with her husband, Alfred and their two sons, Alfred Joseph and John McLean.

1954 May - Virginia W. Blickensderfer finished her thesis Character Education Through the Teaching of Literature in the Secondary School.

During that year she obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee.

1957 Spring - Virginia Womble Blickensderfer and her husband, Alfred, bought a house at 1424 Armstrong Ave. Source: Newspaper clipping circa 1908 from a Knoxville, TN newspaper.
