    "Josiah (Hale), b. 22 Sept. 1678, d. at Suffield in 1750; … His will, dated 4 June 1750, proved 7 Aug. 1750, gave to wife Hannah; cousins John and Sarah, children of brother Timothy Hale of Suffield, deceased; sister Hannah Hale, widow; cousin Joseph Hale; Thomas Hale; cousin Mary Hale; daughter Hannah Granger; Viah Granger; Thankful wife of Jacob Hathaway; and sister Hannah Remington. Samuel Hathaway and Joshua Austin, executors. The estate was under lease to Limus Granger until 15 June 1752. Witnesses: Nathaniel Austin, John Granger, Mary Copley. Inventory: £2416.14-03."

Taken 3 September, 1750, by James King, Abraham Burbank and Jonathan Rising. Additional inventory of £93, sundry creatures in partnership with Lemuel Granger. Will dated 4 June, 1750.

    I, Josiah Hale of Suffield, in the County of Hartford, husbandman, think it fitt to make this my last will and testament: I give to Hannah, my wife, 1 cow, together with all my household goods. I give to my cousin John Hale, son to my brother Timothy Hale, late of Suffield deceased, and my cousin Sarah Hale, daughter to my sd. brother Timothy, my homelott, part of which is called the Great Hollow, lying north of John Norton's homelott, about 40 acres, together with my pasture that I had of Joseph Rising, lying south of my homelott, about 14 acres, with my house and barn and all that appertains to sd. land, by them peaceably to be possessed and enjoyed, they paying to other persons whose names shall be hereafter mentioned in this my will what I shall order and appoint, my just debts being paid. I give to my cousin John Hale my meadow lying upon Stony Brook, as also a parcel of land that I have in the swamp called Huxley's, about 13 acres; also a parcel of land lying east from John Granger's homelott. It is my will that there shall be raised out of my estate by my executors, and given to my sister Hannah Hale, widow, £3 old tenour; also £3 old tenour, which I give to my cousin Joseph Hale. Also, it is part of my last will that Thomas Hale shall have £3. Also I give to Mary Hale, my cousin, £10. Also I give to my daughter Hannah Granger £40 old tenour. It is part of this my last will that Viah Granger shall have £50 old tenor. Likewise I give to Thankful Hathaway, wife of Jacob Hathaway, £30 old tenour. Also I give to my sister Hannah Remington £20 old tenor. It is to be understood as part of this my last will that my 2 faithful friends, Samuel Hathaway and Joshua Austin, both of Suffield, shall be executors. It is to be understood that my above willed estate is leased out to Limus Granger, which lease will be out the 15th June, 1752; that then the above-mentioned heirs shall have the peaceable possession of what is above willed and bequeathed to them.

    Page 1 (Vol. XVI) 4 September, 1750: This Court grant Adms. on the intestate estate of Josiah Hale, late of Suffield decd., unto Hannah Hale, widow of sd. decd., who gave bond. Also the Adms. exhibited an inventory of ye sd. intestate estate, which is accepted by the Court.
