Sarah Elizabeth Cade said that when they first moved to KS they settled in Leavenworth, KS on Nov. 18, 1861. Then they settled in Wakarusa Twp, Douglas Co, KS. About 1870 they moved to Osage Co, KS

Another source states they came to Ohio from VA between 1814 and 1817.

 Josephus & Martha Ann (Harsh) Cade were married in Pickaway Co, Ohio on

February 24, 1839. The Cade family and some of the Harsh family migrated from Ohio to Illinois. The Josephus Cade's migrated to Kansas in 1861 and first settled in Douglas County, Wakarusa Twp, KS. Josephus and Martha Ann had 12 children born to them. Some in Ohio, some in Illinois, the youngest in Kansas. They moved to Osage Co, KS from Douglas Co, KS, later returning to Douglas Co, KS.

OBITUARY: Lawrence Daily Journal & Evening Tribune Monday, March 23, 1896 Joseph Cade, aged 79 years, died at his home south of the city last evening from heart failure. The funeral will take place tomorrow. Mr. Cade has been suffering for sometime past from gangrene and last week his leg was amputated above the knee as the only means of saving his life. This proved a greater shock than he could stand and death resulted last evening from heart failure. Mr. Cade was very well known and had a great many friends in different parts of the county.

HON. W.S. CADE (Possible Relative?)

 Attorney and Probate Judge, is a native of Ohio, and was born in 1849; he was

reared in the agricultural profession and obtained a fair education. At the age of 17 years, he began teaching school, and continued 11 years, teaching in winter and working on the farm during the summer; in the meantime he was reading law. He attended the law department at the University of Michigan and was admitted to the bar, in 1875, at Ironton, Ohio, after which he opened an office at Pomeroy, Ohio, in the meantime, teaching school in winter and staying in his office during the summer. In 1878, he was compelled to leave his office on account of failing health. In 1879, he came to Kansas and located at Anthony, and began the practice of his profession. In (unable to read date), he was elected a member of the City Council, in which he served 2 years, and in 1882, he was elected to the office of Police Judge for a short time; in the fall of the same year, he was elected to the office of Probate Judge. He is a member of the order of Odd Fellows. He built and owns a business house; he also owns a farm of 160 acres, and some city lots. Mr. Cade was married to Miss Elizabeth E. Hogenbach, of Iowa, in 1883. Mr. Cade is a member of the M.E. Church. (NOTE: Ironton, Ohio is in Lawrence County and Pomeroy, Ohio is in Meigs County)
