He enlisted as private in the Civil War; age 38; entered May 2, 1864; period 100 days; 147th Ohio Vol. Infantry Company B; mustered in 16 May, 1864, Camp Dennison, O. Mustered out 30 Aug, 1864 (Roster O. Troops Civil War; Vol. IX P.95. Resided on a farm near Portsmouth, Ohio, until 1885; then Bradford, Arkansas., where he d. 29 Sept., 1891. Wife d. 27 April, 1899.

Joseph Throckmorton married Lavinia Ray in Ohio August 29, 1851 at Portsmouth, Ohio court house. She was born December 3, 1834. She died April 27, 1899 in Arkansas. Joseph owned several acres of land near Arion, Scioto Co., Ohio. He sold this and removed to Bradford, Arkansas in 1885. He died there Sept. 29, 1891. At age thirty-eight he served as a private in the Civil War..... Joseph and Lavinia are said to have had twenty children. ..some died young. They raised 13.
