July 19, 1860 the Courtland Co. Surrogate Court testimony of proving the will of Joseph. His sons Hopkins and Henry Stafford, executors...daughters Laura Underwood and Fienna Stowell, with brothers Arnold, Josiah, Horace, Gardner and Miles Stafford and the children of deceased grother Joseph Jr. (Henrietta, Howard and Abner) appeared in opposition to the will. Pg499...Arnold...was 52 the 11th day of last June (1860)-all my brothers have wives and children. Laura 8, Arnold 6, Fienna 9, Hopkins 10, Josiah 9, Gardner 6 or 7, Henry 7, Horace 2, and Miles 2--64 grandchildren in all... Henry Stafford one of the executors named in the will...deceased had 11 children Laura Underwood, Arnold Stafford, Fianna Stowell, Hopkins Stafford, Josiah Stafford, Henry Stafford, Joseph Stafford, Jr. deceased, Oliver Stafford, Gardner Stafford, Horace G. Stafford and Miles Stafford. Joseph died 2 years ago last fall, he resided in Freetown-he left three children-Henrietta Stafford, Howard Stafford and Abner Stafford the are all minor. My father lived Virgil over 40 years-he was born in the state of Rhode Island, he came from RI to Otsego Co and Otsego Co to Virgil, he wasa farmer. Ilive in Hoemr and have 16 years. I am over 43 years of age... Susannah Stafford sworn..I am widow of Joseph Stafford deceased I am 73...after about 100 pages of testimony...surrogate found at the time of will unsoun mind and incompetent to make a will and declared the will invalid and refused to admit the will to probate 25 July1960.
