Silkweaver and Husbandman Joseph served in the East Middlesex Militia in the Lt Colonel's Regiment from 12 April 1793 until 7 May 1799. During that time he was sent recruiting between June and December 1793, was on detachment between June and December 1794, and was absent at Dungerness in the period between December 1794 and June 1795, as were many of his colleagues.
