    Joseph Persinger married Elizabeth Branham on January 03, 1832, in Boone County, Missouri. He published a pamphlet "The Life of Jacob Persinger" in 1861 in which he
    described a battle in 1813 along Bonne Femme Creek near the Missouri River (southwest of Columbia) in which 50 Indians were killed. (pp 985-986)

    He settled 7 or 8 miles northeast of Columbia between 1818 and 1820 (i.e. in the
    vicinity of the Wright Cemetery). (p 133) He was Captain of a volunteer company organized to fight the Mexicans in 1844 and on September 25, 1847. General Joseph Persinger's troop of horse escorted the newly returned volunteers to a public expression of appreciation. (p 355) He has been described as "the famous old hunter and pioneer who was reared by Indians". (p 735)
