From the October 24, 1918, edition of the Monona (IA) Leader Joe Lestina was born Sept. 16, 1883, in Giard Twp., Clayton Co., Iowa. He attended the public school of his district when of school age and after that worked on the farm. Jan. 23, 1903, he was married to Mary Schroeder. They lived in Dubuque for one year, then started farming on he place from which he is removed by death. Some weeks ago, his wife and three children went on a trip to Milwaukee, Wis. Here some of them were taken with influenza. The father and husband was advised of this and went to bring them home. He too was taken sick, pneumonia developed and with this a weakness of the heart, and Monday morning he succumbed, while his wife and children were all well again. He lived 35 years and 34 days. There are left as mourners his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lestina; parents-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Marks; his wife; four children, Edna, aged 13, Lorine, aged 10, Kenneth, aged 5 and 3 year old Kirmeth. The deceased has four sisters and brothers still living: Mrs. Frank Macha, Mrs. Joe Opat, Mrs. Kubesh and Frank Lestina. The funeral services was held near the home of the deceased and at the Monona cemetery, Rev. A. Daugs officiating, on Oct. 23, 1918. Image Gallery
