    Thomas Kinyon of South Kingstown informs Town Council that his father-in-law Joseph Lad of South Kingstown is an aged, poor, blind man and hath no estate to maintain himself & that he now lives with ye sd Kinyon and that it is too great a burden for him to bear as a son-in-law and considering his circumstances and the old man having several sons in sd town that are able to assist in ye maintaining of ye sd old man, therefore the sd Kinyon prays that the TC would make an order upon him & upon the sons of the sd Joseph Lad in order for his maintenance. Wherefor TC of South Kingstown orders that they each of them shall pay as it is hereafter expressed in order for his maintainance, viz: That Benjamin Lad shall pay £5 10s. Jonathan Lad shall pay £5. Joseph Lad shall pay £9. Thomas Kinyon [shall pay] £5. Sarah Lad [shall pay] £1 10s. And that all the abovesaid sums to be paid by the persons abovesd shall be for the support & maintainance of the sd Joseph Lad for one hole year from the day of the date hereof next ensuing and every of them except the sd Kinyon shall pay the fourth part of the abovesaid sums quarterly to the sd Kinyon & that he shall do his part also as is above set forth and it the old man shall dye before the year end then each of them shall pay proportionally according to the above sums for the time he lives. ...
