"Joseph Drake [#6] [ye 3'd] (John 2), born in Easton before 1717; died October 26, 1780; married Mercy Smith, died May 7, 1759, daughter of Samuel and Esther of Taunton. The Joseph 3d above at his death was called 'of ye north part of Easton'. He owned near No. 8 school house, his father John having had a tract of land 'half a mile northward from the store House' laid out to him. He was a member of the first militia company of Easton, April 7, 1757, under Capt. Eliphat Leonard. August 27th of the same year he enlisted in the company of Capt. Ebenezer Dean of Taunton, Col. Eliphat Leonard's regiment, which marched to the relief of Fort William Henry, Lake George, in the French and Indian war."
[Note: to be married by 1721, probably born before 1700 to be of legal age. Note the reference in this source to Joseph 3d should not cause him to be confused with the Joseph 3d of town records who had a wife named Thankful Pratt.]
