Beck, 88, of Northumberland, passed away Thursday at Nottingham Village. Born in Ashland, Feb. 1, 1926, he was a son of the late Charles and Florence Schuyler Beck. On May 12, 1956, he married the former Dolores M. Panno, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2010. He was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Ashland. He then joined the Navy, serving as a medic during World War II on the USS Melville. He began working for the Federal Penitentiary in Ann Harbor, Michigian, and retired in 1977 after many years of service as a corrections officer at the Lewisburg Penitentiary. He then became a custodian at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Sunbury, and also did volunteer work at American Post 44, Northumberland. Joseph was a longtime faithful member of St. Monica Roman Catholic Church, Sunbury. He was a member of American Legion Post 44, Northumberland, and the Lost Acre Hunting Camp in Potter County, where he pursued his passion of hunting and fishing. He was an avid Penn State and Philadelphia Phillies fan. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joseph was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jayme C. Clark; and two sisters, Helen Rice and Dorothy Catizone. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna M. and William G. Kern, Dundee, New York, Debra A. and Ronald W. Gruneberg, Lewisburg, and Cathleen M. Conrad and her companion, John J. Ziants, Winfield; six grandchildren and spouses, Lindsey B. and Chris J. Koek, Kristin J. and Christopher Edwards, Scott A. Buchanan, Joseph L. Gardner, Stephanie L. and Justin D. Markley and Timothy A. Conrad Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Jalyn M. Markley, Briana L. Buchanan and Aubrey E. and Owen J. Koek; a sister, Mary Eileen Reichwein, Ashland; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Kathryn Beck, Chambersbburg, and John and Sandy Beck, Old Towne, Maryland. Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Monica Church, 109 Market St., Sunbury, where a memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., with Father Fred Wangwe AJ as celebrant. Interment with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 44, Northumberland, will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Elyburg. In lieu of followers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America Inc., 322 Eighth Ave., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001. Arrangements are by Joseph W.
