Jonathan "John" Clayman is the only man by this name in the area until his sons came of age. The first record of him is in a 1791 account with the Colonial North Carolina government where he furnished supplies to the Revolutionary soldiers of Sullivan Co., North Carolina (now Sullivan Co., Tenn). HIs name is on some early tax lists of Washington Co, Va and in the 1790's he brought land on Reed Creek in Sullivan Co, Tenn near the Washington Co. line. Clayman Tree FTW |
