  • Page 198.--13th March, 1795. Robert McKittrick's will, Sr.--To son, Robert, the gap plantation in Gemonse's Gap; to sons, John, William, James; to son-in-law, William Metaire; to son-in-law, John Wright; to son-in-law, John Montgomery; to son-in-law, James Guye; to. granddaughter, Jenny Guy; to daughters, Sarah, Isbell, Margaret. Executors, sons Robert and John. Teste: John Hutcheson, Moses McCleur, Wm. Schoolar. Recorded in Harrison County, Kentucky, 10th July, 1795 (W. Moore, C. H. C.). and at December Court, 1795, in Augusta.
  • Vol. 2 - John Wright's Declaration, July 16th, 1832: Age 76; enlisted in 1778 in Capt. Burleigh's Company in the Third Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Taylor. Thomas Landes testifies that he belonged to the same company. (Note: this record would place the birthdate of John Wright in abt. 1756, if it was the same John Wright).

Information on John Wright

John Wright was born in Augusta Co., VA sometime before 1753. John married Margaret McKittrick in about 1777-78. In about 1787 John and his brothers, Samuel, James, Alexander and William crossed the Appalachian Mts. and settled in Bourbon Co., KY. In about 1801-02, John and his family crossed the Ohio River and became an early settler in Brown Co. (formerly Adams Co.) OH. John bought a 400 acre farm about 1 mile north of Decatur, OH. John and Margaret raised a family of nine children: William, Margaret, Robert, Thomas M., James, Alexander, Jane, John (Jr.), and Samuel. John Wright (Sr.) died in 1824 near Decatur, OH. by taichi


John Wright bought 205 acres in the Calf Pasture in Augusta Co, VA, on 20 17 Oct 1774. He must have been at least 21 years old at the time of the purchase, suggesting that he was born in 1753 or earlier. On 20 Feb 1786, he and his wife Margaret sold this land. --Bill Wright 21:14, 5 October 2008 (EDT)
