John served as a private in the Massachusetts Militia during the RevolutionaryWar. He was in Capt. James Hubbard's Company, Ephriam Doolittle's regiment, and he served at Camp Winter Hill on Oct 10, 1775.

John and Catherine filed nowills. And because Alfred town records only record deaths and marriages, (nobirths) it is impossible to know for sure who their children were. After studying the notes sent from the Alfred Historical Committee, and the censuses, thisis what we know:

We know John and Catherine settled in Sanford Maine, inthe part that later became Alfred, Maine. John appears in the 1790 census; 2 males over 16, 1 male under 16, and 3 females. In the 1800 census, John and Catherine have 2 females 16-25 living with them. In the 1810 census; they have 4children at home; 2 boys (16-25) and 2 girls (1 under 10, 1 16-25. It is unclear who the are parents of these childen. If they are John and Catherine's, then they would have been "missed" in the 1800 censes. It is most likey that theyare grandchildren. In the 1820 census, in Alfred, John lists a male and a female over 45. From these census records it appears John and Catherine had 5 children: 3 girls and 2 boys.

We know that two Wormwood brothers, Amos andJohn, settled in Sanford/Alfred in the late 1700's. Because Amos had a will, we know who his children were. That would mean that the "un-attached" Wormwoodslisted in Alfred's town marriage/death records are/could be the children of John and Catherine.

We know about John (b abt 1773) because he was "given" hisparents land. The IGI lists a Mary (b. 15 May 1770, d. 6 Oct 1800) as their daughter. From the town records we find the death of "Cate" (If they named a son Jr., it would/might make sense they also had a "Jr." daughter), and the marriages of Ezra (1779-1860) to Huldah Straw in 1800, and Abigail (to her first cousin) John Cousins in 1804. Because Ezra moved to Vermont, and 2 daughters died, and the other daughter was living in Lyman with her husband's family (being taken care of)....it would only make sense to set-up their only local child withthe family farm. Thus, No need to write a will.
