    Rev John was minister of the wealthy society of "merchant adventurers" in Hamburg, Germany. His Farewell sermon "Jacob's Staffe" was preached Nov 1617. He was pastor of English churches at Flushing, Middleburg and the Hague where the English Royal Family frequently attended.

    May 16, 1624 he gave a sermon before Queen Elizabeth.

    He died before family left for America. His last appointment at St Mary Aldermary in London. Made will leaving freehold lands in Crickston and Stroud to his children and wife Deborah Bachiler, daughter of Rev Stephen Bachiler, who was executrix with Edward Foord, London merchant and Andrew Blake of Stoud Kent as Yeoman Overseers.

    His wife and family arrived in Boston in 1632
