Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 5, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Sims, John - born 2/12/1755 in Culpeper County, Virginia; moved in 1769 to Augusta County, Virginia, where entered service 1777 in Virginia militia as indian spy; received Pension 1833 in Lewis County, Virginia, where he resided since 1819; William Bennett & Job Houghton made affidavit there then, per County Justice of the Peace William Peterson & County Clerk of Court John Talbott; soldier's name dropped from Pension rolls when Pension Office decided soldier was too young to have rendered alleged service; soldier's wife (mentioned but not named) made affidavit that, as result of a fall from horse, soldier's mind was impaired & he was duped by others into making application for pension.
