Information on John Sharp

John Sharp was taxed on property valued at $1462 in 1779 in St. Asaph District Orange County, North Carolina, and in 1780 he was taxed on 300 acres of land in 1787 he was taxed on 290 acres of land in Montgomery Co., Virginia. John and Phyllis sold land in Montgomery Co., VA (formerly Botetourt Co) on 9/18/1801, and John's name appears on the 1802 tax list of Anderson Co. TN. He owned 123.5 acres in B Valley. John died after will was written on 1/2/1830 and before 5/13/1830 (date executor sold his personal property). Phyllis died between 12/8/1841 (date she made affidavit that her sister, Sarah, was widow of Boston Graves) and March 20, 1846 (date of letter written by William McAdoo, Clinton, TN, to George Gibbs, Union City, TN) in which he states that aunts Sharp and Graves are deceased. Phyllis was probably single in 1769 as she stated that she rode from her father's house (1841 affidavit) in company with Boston Graves and Sarah Efland and returned with them to her father. She attended their wedding.

John Sharp was a Revolutionary War Patriot since John Efland, his brother-in-law substituted for hi in service. John had brothers: Henry H. whose wife was Barbara Graves, sister of Boston Graves; Aaron, George and sister Mrs. Nicholas Countz, according to a manuscript prepared by William Carroll Graves in 1870.
