Nov. 2, 1731 from "Abstracts of N.C. Wills" by Grimes. Russell, John legatee of John Bartista Ashe of Bath Co. (VA) will Nov. 2, 1731 probated Nov. 15, 1734. Sons: John & Samuel. Dau. Mary. Bros: John & Samuel Swann. Land up the NW branch Cape Fear. (JLB Note: Bath County, VA not created until 1791). Also on land patents by Hofmann on Sept. 7, 1726 JOHN BAPTISTA ASHE patented 1,000 acres on New Topsail Sound joining the Hammock on the W. side of the mouth of Whitehurst's Creek, the Sound, McKinney and the said creek.

The Exer. of the will was his father. There are a lot of land transactions in the name of Richard Russell, Jr. in that area.
