Birth: Genealogical and Historical Sketches of the Lomax Family, by Joseph Lomax. Grand Rapids, Michigan, 1894, p. 113. "All except the last (child) were born in Warren Co., Ky., and the last in Warren Co., Ill. The family moved to Knox Co., Ill. in the fall of 1842 They bought land on Sec. 24, Floyd Township, Warren Co. and settled on it in 1845; and there resided until 1856. The father and children, Elijah, Rhoda, Rachel, and R. Carr, are buried in Cherry Grove Cemetary in Abingdon. The descendants of Temperance G. Lomax count 88 grandchildren and 80 great-grand- children. The mother descended from Thomas Lomax of Danville, KY. 1880 census Warren Co. Illinois, Dist 285 on 4 & 5th of June - Father from Geo, Mother from Ken.

Ray Sommerville gives middle name of Henry. --- Notes from George Sweeney: From the J. Lomax Family Sketches it states that John Pool was born 10 June 1776 in NC. A photo-copy of his marriage certificate states he was over 21 when he married Tempy Lomax in Jan of 1825. Elijah, Rhoda, Rachel, and Rhoda's husband, Robert Karr, are buried in the Cherry Grove Cemetery at Abingdon, IL., along with their father, John. John was found living with family in Warren Co. IL in the 1850 Federal census. Sarah Ann, Rachel, and Elizabeth were not listed with the family in this census.

I question the birthdate of Sarah Ann Johnson Pool given in the John Lomax Family Sketches - 17 Oct 1824; this is 3 months before John and Tempy were married in KY? Maybe she was born out of wedlock to John and Tempy? Could she be one of John's nieces? Or was she a child by a previous marriage?

One census source states John was born in NC and the informant on John's son, Benjamin, death certificate states John was born in KY?

Info received June 30, 2000: from Georgie Stegall, 890 N. Forest Ave., Batavia, IL 60510............that this John Pool is John M. Pool, born 1779 in SC???? rather than NC. Another Pool researcher, Karla Joyner, stated (May 2001) that John Pool's (that married Tempy Lomax ) middle name was Henry...which I intend to agree with.

A submission to the Family History of LDS Mormom Temple in Salt Lake City, UT...stated that a John Pool, married an Eva Houk. This John Pool was born in 1779 and is not my John Pool. Also submitted with this info...John Pool (the one born in 1779 in Muddy Creek, Rowan Co., NC) was the son of a William Pool, who was the son of an Edward Pool. Some Pool researchers have attached the John Pool who married Tempy Lomax with this Edward Pool of Rowan Co., NC...this cannot be documented and I believe to be false. - George Sweeney --- Verlinda Cliffton listing in 1880 Census of Coldbrook, Warren, Illinois says father was born in GA. ---
