- ↑ John is last on the list of his mother's children in the guardianship records pertaining to her father's estate and he is listed after his sister Elizabeth in his guardianship after his father's death in 1777 both of which seem to indicate he was under the age of 14.
- John Phelps is probably identical to the John Phelps who married Collate Bartlett, daughter of Moses and Collate Danks Bartlett of Southampton, in Southampton. Their marriage intention was published March 6, 1791. This John Phelps was probably the John Phelps who died July 5, 1806 at age 36 in Southampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. His calculated age fits with Eliakim's son John. Additionally, his sister Lucy and her family were living in Southampton.
- Beverly J. Ellison Nelson in "Moses Bartlett of Southampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts" Western Massachusetts Families in 1790, American Ancestors, includes a footnote which identifies John as being of Belchertown.
