NEILL The information on this family cam from research done by Malone Mc Daniel of Jackson, Tennessee and Peggy Neill of Pharr, Texas over many years. One of the legends is that this family was an aristocratic line that was banished from Ireland. THOMAS NEILL He married Elizabeth. They were Quakers in Gloucester, England as of 1694. JOHN NEILL Thomas and Elizabeth's son John was born at Inniskillen, County Fermaugh, Ireland. He married on April 3, 1694, Esther Reford (born 1670's), the daughter of Lewis (born 1650's, whom died in County Antrim, Ireland around 1684) and Hannah Reford. They had seven children. Three boys died as infants, and three came to America. He was alive as of 1738 in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. Sons John and Lewis settled in 1732 in the Joist Hite settlement (see Glass family) on Opeckon Creek in Frederick Co., Virginia. John and Esther's children :
William's children: 1.Andrew was born in Maryland, he was living as of 1750 in New London Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, had issue- Gilbreath md. Martha Kerr, Sarah md. Andrew Falls, Jane md. Andrew Kerr, Esther md. Thomas Allison & James Donelson, William md. Ann Allison & Elizabeth Neill, Rosannah md. William Kerr, Lettice md. Richard Allison.. 2.James 3.William, see below. 4. possibly a daughter who married Gilbreath Falls 5. possibly, Polly who married in 1769, Joshua Cox.
John and Esther (Raford) Neill lived in Tyrine (Tyrone?) County, Ireland. It is not clear if they immigrated. However, their sons John and Lewis settled in Frederick County, VA with the Jost Hite Group in 1732. John and Esther's son William immigrated to Philadelphia in 1730. He is the one that came to Rowan County, NC with sons Andrew, John, James and William. William Sr. was born in 1711. References
