From Chalkley’s Augusta County Records:
- Page 277.--23d September, 1780. John Mitchell's will--To Ann Russell. £150; to Mary Russell, £150; to Andrew Russell's children; to Esther Turk; to Andrew Russell, but he is to give Ann, Mary, and Mathew their quantity of the legacy and the rest of the childrens, that is to say, William, Betty, Andrew, John, Jean, and James their mentioned parts of the legacy when they are of age; Thomas Turk, father of Esther, is to control her legacy until she is of age; to Mathew Russell; to William Russell; to Ann Russell; to Mary Russell; to Jean Russell. Teste: John Reaugh, Margaret Kirk, Mary Turk. Proved, 15th April, 1783, by the witnesses.

- Vol. 1 - ORIGINAL PETITIONS AND PAPERS FILED IN THE COUNTY COURT. 1750 - I, John Mitchell, son of John Mitchell, and brother of William Mitchell of the County of Augusta, held and firmly bound to Thomas Wilson, late of Pennsylvania. 14th September, 1762. John, Jr., obtained patent with his father's money and for his father's benefit for 400 acres on a branch of James River, known by the name of Broad Spring Branch, which pond was afterwards sold by John, Sr., to his son, William, and William and wife, Margaret, have sold the same to said Thomas Wilson, indemnity against any claims of John, Jr., or any one under him (not recorded).
